Halloween Parties in Barcelona
Origins, Parties, Easy Costumes
It’s that time of the year again where we let the freaks come out and scary creatures roam the clubs in Barcelona. Here’s your complete guide to how the tradition started, the best Halloween parties in Barcelona, and some quick and easy costume ideas!
So what is Halloween exactly? For those who unfortunately have never had a chance to experience this magnificent holiday…it’s a tradition from many ghostly moons ago. Halloween is short for “Hallows Eve,” which occurs before “All Saints Day “ on November 1st. Hallows Eve or “Winters Eve” was the last day of summer for the Celts and they celebrated this transition of seasons with a festival. However, there was much superstition surrounding this spooky change of weather and the Celts believed that on “Hallows Eve,” October 31st…the dead would come back to look for a live body to posses. This would be the only chance the dead would have for afterlife. To avoid the spirits of the dead, the Celts dressed up in scary costumes and caused a ruckus to frighten the dead away.
Another common tradition associated with Halloween is Trick or Treating, which is mostly practiced by little kids. They go from door to door asking for candy and at the end of the night, they have enough to give them a sugar high for months! The Erasmus Barcelona crew prefers Trick or Drink better (;
For the young, however, Erasmus Barcelona and SHAZ LIST knows that Halloween means so much more! It means getting drunk, dressing up and partying till the sun rises! Animal: You can pretty much be any animal just by finding the right pairs of ears. Hit up an accessories store in the Gothic Quarter or El Raval to find a pair of cat, bunny, or mouse ears. Then grab your black eyeliner and draw a nose and some whiskers. Vuala! && If anyone asks, “You’re a mouse…duhh”
Girls and Boys:
Vampire: Snag some fangs, and fake blood at a small Halloween store in the Gothic Quarter or El Raval. Wear an all black outfit and you’re all set! Guys, you can dress it up by wearing nice pants and a collar shirt and girls, a skirt or dress!
So there you have it, a guide to Halloween in Barcelona 2014! Get spooky, get freaky, and drink a lot of BOO-ze!
