Between the nearby peaks of the Alps and the Jura hill range lies the French-speaking city of Geneva, in the bay where the Rhône leaves Lake Geneva. The European headquarters of the UNO and the headquarters of the Red Cross is also called the “peace capital“, combining a humanitarian tradition with a cosmopolitan air.
Geneva is not only a center for congresses but also for culture and history, for fairs and exhibitions. The “Horloge Fleuri”, the flower clock in the English Garden (Englischer Garten) is a world-renowned symbol of the Geneva watch industry.
Annecy, is the prefecture and largest city of the Haute-Savoie department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of Southeastern France. Nicknamed the “Pearl of French Alps” in Raoul Blanchard’s monograph describing its location between lake and mountains, the city controls the northern entrance to the lake gorge. Annecy has hosted the Annecy International Animated Film Festival since 1960 and the Rencontres Internationales d’Annecy Cinéma & Architecture since 1999 and it was one of the oldest festivals in France.
