Let’s have an unforgettable adventure while visiting the Basque Country and following the real-life location that features in the memorable Game of Thrones series.
During the trip we will visit 4 locations: San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, Bilbao, Zumaia, San Sebastian. We will spend one night in Bilbao and 1 night in San Sebastian in hostels.
DAY 1
We arrive early in the morning at the mystical island of Dragonstone. Dragonstone island sets the scene of the first episode of Season 7 and is the location from which character Daenerys Targaryen has been plotting war against her enemies.
The real island is home to a small church called San Juan Gaztelugatxe.
We will make a stop near the entrance of the complex so that we can take some amazing photos!
After this, we go to Bilbao – The largest city and the heart of the Basque country. The city has successfully mixed traditional Basque culture with a new vision for the future. An example could be the Guggenheim Museum which is one of the most important structures of contemporary architecture or The Casco Viejo of Bilbao, known as a “Zazpi Kalaek” in Basque (the seven streets), the seven streets that formed the original medieval town which is now the heart of the city. Here you have a free day to explore and experience the city by yourself.
DAY 2
We are visiting one place from Game of thrones – Zumaia. That rocky beach seen in the show is called Itzurun. The unusual flush rock formations that stretch in Zumaia have long been a popular attraction for geologists and landscape photographers.
After the visit to Zumaia, we departure to San Sebastian where we are staying all night at the hostel. And having an opportunity to experience the city’s nightlife.
DAY 3
Day at San Sebastian – What is not to love about this majestic city on the Cantabrian Sea? The city is famous for its white-sand beaches. La Concha, the most beautiful urban beach in Europe, Its boardwalk is lined by an ornate white railing that has become a symbol of the city. In more recent years, San Sebastián has gained significant press for its cuisine. The city alone has 15 Michelin stars spread across 7 restaurants.
San Sebastián is also famous for its pintxos. And the best place to go to try some of them is the Parte Vieja. This charming old city centre is famous for having the highest concentration of bars in the world. This is where the pintxo is king and the food is taken very seriously.
After spending the day at San Sebastian we will prepare to go back to Barcelona.
