Somewhere by the famous littoral of Girona we can find the beautiful town of Begur. In this sector of Costa Brava, mountains dive into the Mediterranean sea, forming small coves and sandy beaches among rocky cliffs and pine forests go all the way to the shore, surrounding the town. The historic quarter is a very traditional and colorful place made up of narrow streets dominated by the ruins of an 11th-century austere castle that sits upon a hill. It is still possible to admire the ancient walls and the five defense towers while the area’s popular architecture is characterized by the use of stone. The ancient fishing quarters located by the beach, have become the most important residential and tourist areas.
Castell de Begur was built for the feudal lord Arnust of Begur around the 11th century and these days mostly consists of the remains of its outer walls. However, its position on the top of the tallest hill in the area overlooking the city makes it perfect for a pleasant walk and a beautiful panoramic view over the city to the sea. (parking is available on the hill near the castle)
The walks along the coast (Camins de Ronda) are one of Begur’s most important and famous attractions. Camino de Ronda was used by the Civil Guard to control the maritime border and prevent smuggling.
Peratallada is a frozen little town from the Middle Ages of Catalonia, being declared a Historic-Artistic Site in 1975. Located just a few km away from the best coves and beaches of the Costa Brava, apart from the beauty of mime, this walled town surrounded by a moat is very well cared for and preserved, with all kinds of charming details at every corner. We can enjoy free time to admire and explore this lovely village before heading back to Barcelona.
Pals is an enchanting village is renowned for its charming old town, which is a labyrinth of narrow alleys and archways. As you stroll through its streets, you’ll encounter medieval architecture that transports you back in time.
