Spring is here and therefore, the beaches are going to get more and more crowded. If you are looking for some place to rest or do some jogging while enjoying some refreshing shades area; then keep reading our article on the best parks in Barcelona!

1. Ciutadella Park

Let’s start with the most well-known park in the city; Ciutadella! With its big fountain, its mammoth, its small lake where you can go for a row, its green beds and its big palm trees; this park is the HQ for numerous Spanish locals and tourists as soon as a ray of sunshine appears.

You will find children playing ball games, people there practicing the slack-line, sunbathers and multiple musicians making it a quaint and perfect place to visit on a Sunday afternoon.

2. Pedralbes Park

Located by the entrance of Barcelona, at the foot of the Avenue Diagonal, the gardens of Pedralbes is a magnificent park. In line with the Palais Royal of Pedralbes, its statues and fountains accompany you alongside the shade from trees.

This royal park was named so due to the house of the King of Spain, the Palais Royal of Pedralbes, being built next to it in 1926. This atmosphere can still be felt today, with a museum of decorative arts providing cultural attraction. Expect to find a variety of plants in the park such as pines, eucalyptus, locust and lime trees, palm trees (of course) and even bamboo.The incredible fountains present in the park were mainly constructed by Cales Buigas, however, a Barcelonian landmark cannot be complete without the work of Antoni Gaudi; in 1980 he added his own fountain to the gardens.

Finally, this park also hosts the ‘Festival of Pedralbes’ from the 12th of June to the 10th of July, with a variety of international artists attending such as Carla Bruni, Simple Minds, Tom Jones, Kevin Costner and much more.

3. Turó Park

Turó Park owes its name to the amusement park that it used to be up until 1929. Through an agreement with the family owners and the city hall; it was decided to build the amusement park into the park we know today.

Dedicated to the poet Eduard Marquina, this elegant place provides an array of biodiversity with weeping willows, black poplars, and oak trees. The majority of the trees here were originally planted at the park, with a hundred-year-old carob tree present among many others. The pond, surrounded by trees and covered with water lilies that bloom in springtime, is a must-see at Turó Park. Another remarkable attraction is the flowerbed of Boulagrin; fusing Arab and Anglo-Saxon elements seamlessly, next to 16 grand magnolias and a bench to view its beauty.

4. Parc del Laberint d’Horta

In the district of Horta, there is a park, which contains at its heart a real labyrinth! You can walk in the shade of trees, passing by small streams and small waterfalls. In addition, there are very beautiful buildings, a pool with colored carp.

This park is incredibly scenic and very nice. The perfect place when it’s really hot; The sunlight is particularly beautiful at the end of the day.  The price to visit the park runs around 2.50 EUR per person since it is taken care of by the city of Barcelona.

5. Parc de l’Estació del Nord

This park, created in 1972 is seen as a work of land art; it is easily accessible through the Barcelona-Nord bus station. Te park is organized around its main attraction; a large blue ceramic sculpture ensemble; the Cel Caigut, or ‘fallen sky’ erected in the middle of a grassy area. Constructed by the American sculptor Beverly Pepper, he took advantage of the topography of the park to completely integrate his masterpiece into the surrounding nature. The mosaics present on the ceramic act as an homage to Antoni Gaudi, linking Parc de l’Estació del Nord and the iconic Parc Güell.

Be sure to see the massive poplars, pine trees, lindens, oaks, and cypresses. The park is open 7 days a week from 10 AM and is free of charge. Note that animals are permitted, however, are only allowed in the Pipican side of the park.
